Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 August 2026
screen-record.app (“we”, “us”, “the Service”) is a screen recorder that runs entirely inside your browser. This policy explains what we collect and — more importantly — what we structurally cannot collect.
Your recordings never reach us
This is the part worth being precise about, because “private” is a word every recording tool uses.
When you record, your screen, microphone and camera are captured by browser APIs that hand the data to the page you are on. That data goes into an encoder that also runs inside the page, and comes out as a video file held in your browser’s memory. The download button points at that in-memory file.
At no point is there a network request carrying audio or video. This is not a policy choice we could quietly reverse — the Service is a set of static files with no backend that could receive an upload. You can verify it yourself by opening your browser’s network tab while recording, or by disconnecting from the internet before you press record: the recorder keeps working.
When you leave or reload the page, the recording is discarded from memory along with everything else. If you did not download it, it is gone.
Camera and microphone
Access to your camera and microphone requires your explicit permission, requested by your browser, and can be revoked at any time in your browser settings. Screen sharing is granted per recording through your browser’s own picker — a dialog we cannot see, influence or read.
These streams are used only to produce the file you are recording. They are not analysed, transcribed, or retained.
Information we do collect
We do not require an account and there is nothing to sign up for. We may collect:
- basic usage and device analytics (pages visited, approximate region, browser and operating system, referring site) to understand which pages are useful and to keep the Service working across browsers;
- only if you choose to send it, an email address you provide when contacting us.
We never receive the contents of a recording, its filename, its length, or what was on your screen.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality and for privacy-friendly analytics. You can control cookies through your browser, and where required by law we ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set.
How we use information
To operate and improve the Service, keep it secure, and — if you contacted us — reply to you. We do not sell personal information and we do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
Sharing
We share data only with the service providers that help us run the Service, such as hosting and analytics, under agreements that limit their use of it, and where we are required to by law.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months. Any email you send us is kept until you ask us to delete it. Recordings are not retained, because we never receive them.
Third-party links
The Service links to the App Store and to external documentation. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR or CCPA — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export or restrict use of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
International users
We operate globally, so the limited data described above may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new “last updated” date.
